Wireless Protector Troubleshoot

Wireless Protector troubleshooting can be done in few simple steps. After installing Wireless Protector using the software Online Help or the following Wireless Protector Installation guide, verify the software operation by using the following steps.

These are the required steps to troubleshoot and verify the operation of the software:
1. Make sure that Wireless Protector Server software is running on any windows platform on you LAN.
2. For protected Windows computer clients make sure that "Lan-Secure WPClient" protection service is running.
3. For protected Mac-OSX computer clients make sure that "Wireless Protector" process is running.
4. From one of the protected computer clients run the following command "Telnet XYZ 49150" where XYZ is the IP or name of the server, a blank screen should be received (if there are any errors make sure that port 49150 of the server is not blocked by antivirus of firewall software).
5. From the protected computer make sure that the wireless adapter is connected to any nearby access point with IP address and connect the LAN cable to verify that the computer wireless adapters become disabled.
6. From the protected computer disconnect the LAN cable to verify that the previously disabled wireless adapters become enabled.

Wireless Protector Automatic Export

Wireless Protector can automatically export all protection events about protected devices from specific protected computers. The automatic export option can be used to logging events to a text file or SQL database to meet specific administration needs.

These are the required steps to create automatic export:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Export link to manage the current export options.
3. Select the preferred text or database exporting options.
4. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Wireless Protector Automatic Actions

Wireless Protector can perform automatic actions upon disabling protected device from specific protected computer. The automatic actions option can be used to trigger an action like executing a command, sending email or creating SYSLOG event about the protected device or computer to meet specific administration needs.

These are the required steps to create automatic actions:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Actions link to manage the current actions options.
3. From the Automatic Actions click the Add button and set the preferred action.
4. If needed use the E-mail Settings to set the preferred configuration for e-mail actions.
5. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Wireless Protector Administrator Permissions

Wireless Protector server console can use specific administrators permissions when there is a need for multiple administrators with specific operations permissions. When enabling this option the server console checks the current logon user against the predefined administration permissions and provides only the selected permissions to the current administrator.

These are the required steps to set administrator permissions option:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. Click the check box of the administrator permissions to enable the option.
4. Use the Add button and set administrator username and permissions.
5. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Wireless Protector Redundant Servers

Wireless Protector clients protection service can use multiple redundant servers. The redundant servers option can be used in distributed environments networks when there is a need for multiple servers. The servers will be selected by the clients protection service using the first available server in the ordered servers list or by using the first responsive server from the list.

These are the required steps to set redundant servers option:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. Click the check box of the redundant servers to enable the option.
4. Select the preferred redundant option as first available or first responsive.
5. Click the Add button and set a new server name or IP address.
6. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

These are the required steps to complete the redundant servers settings:
1. For built-in deployment: open the Scan screen and click the Deploy Computers button.
2. For self deployment: create a new installation package and install it on all protected computers.

Wireless Protector Exclude Addresses

Wireless Protector can exclude specific range of LAN network addresses from disabling the protected devices. The exclude addresses option can be used when there is a need to automatically prevent protected computers from blocking protected devices while their LAN cable is connected to secured networks.

These are the required steps to set exclude addresses range option:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. Click the check box of the exclude addresses to enable the option.
4. Use the Add button and set starting and ending address range.
5. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Wireless Protector Discovery and Scanning

Wireless Protector can automatically scan exist protected computers for active protection service and discover new computers that use protected devices. The Discovery and Scanning option can be used to ensure that the current protection service is updated and running on the protected computers. As well as, adding new protected computers automatically when they use any of the current selected protected devices.

These are the required steps to set automatic Discovery and Scanning option:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. Click the check box of the discovery and scanning to enable the option.
4. Use the Add button and select the preferred computers and time.
5. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Wireless Protector Clients Notification

By default, Wireless Protector Protection service is displaying a notification message to the protected computers when protected device is being disabled. The notification message can be disabled or changed to support deferent languages or administration needs.

These are the required steps to disable or change the client’s notification message:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. Click the check box of the clients notification to enable the option.
4. Type the preferred clients notification display text.
5. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Wireless Protector Clients Reboot

Wireless Protector Protection service is disabling the protected devices automatically without any need to reboot the protected computer. However, there are some devices like cameras that can’t be disabled while they are in use. In that case optional reboot settings can be used to force the device to disable state.

These are the required steps to set the clients reboot option:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. From the Clients Reboot options choose the force reboot settings.
4. Set the reboot waiting time and optional display message.
5. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Wireless Protector Clients Unstoppable Service

Wireless Protector Protection service is constantly running on the protected computers as service on Windows platforms and as a daemon on Mac-OSX platforms. By default, only administrator on the protected computers can stop the protection operation. However, in cases that the protected computers users are local administrators there may be need to set the protection service as unstoppable to prevent users from stopping the protection service.

These are the required steps to set the Built-in Deployment clients protection service as unstoppable:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. From the Clients Service options choose the unstoppable.
4. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.
5. Open the Scan View in Wireless Protector Server.
6. Click the Deploy Computers button to set the remote protection service as unstoppable.

These are the required steps to set the Self Deployment clients protection service as unstoppable:
1. Open the tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Deployment link and create installation package with the unstoppable option on any removable media.
3. Insert the deployment package media to the computer that you would like to protect to install the protection service.
4. To deploy Windows platforms run the Install.bat batch file from the deployment package.
5. To deploy Mac-OSX platforms run the Install.app script file from the deployment package.

These are the required steps to remove unstoppable clients protection service:
1. Open the Scan View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Select the computers that need to be removed.
3. Click the Delete Computers button to delete the selected computers.
4. If the computers were installed with self-deployment option use the deployment package uninstall.bat file to complete the uninstall procedure.

Wireless Protector Automatic Events Removal

Wireless Protector is collecting events for all protected computers to display them in the Reports View screen. By default, each event is kept for 30 days and then automatically deleted. The events removal settings can be changed to meet specific administration needs.

These are the required steps to change the automatic events removal options:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. From the Events Removal options choose the preferred settings.
4. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Wireless Protector Protected Devices Options

Wireless Protector can protect various types of devices. By default, only the wireless devices option is enabled. The protected devices settings can be changed for all computers or for individual computer.

These are the required steps to change the protected devices for all users:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. From the Protected Devices options use the checkboxes to select the preferred protected devices.
4. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

These are the required steps to change the protected devices for individual computer:
1. Open the Scan View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Select the computers that need to use different protected devices.
3. Click the Set Protection button to change the protected devices for the selected computers.

Wireless Protector Startup Options

Wireless Protector Server needs to be running constantly to reply to computers protection requests. By default, Wireless Protector Server is not startup automatically when the platform that runs the software server rebooted.

These are the required steps to startup Wireless Protector Server automatically:
1. Open the Tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Options link to change the running options.
3. From the Automatic Startup options select automatic start as windows service or windows program.
4. Click the Save button on the bottom of the screen.

Uninstall Wireless Protector

Wireless Protector includes a server and protection service that installed on all protected computers. It is recommended to uninstall the protected computers first and then uninstall the server.

These are the required steps to uninstall the clients by using the Built-In Deployment:
1. Open the Scan View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Select the computers that need to be deleted and click the Delete Computers button.
3. The remote computers protection service will be deleted in next time that the computers LAN cable will be connected to the network.

These are the required steps to uninstall the clients by using the Self Deployment:
1. To uninstall Windows platforms run the Uninstall.bat batch file from the deployment package.
2. To uninstall Mac-OSX platforms run the Uninstall.app script file from the deployment package.

These are the required steps to uninstall the server:
1. Open the server windows Control Panel link.
2. Select 'Uninstall a program' or 'Add or Remove programs' link.
3. Select Wireless Protector from the list.
4. Click the remove button.

Wireless Protector Installation

Wireless Protector Installation includes a windows platform on the local LAN network that acting as a server to all protected computers and protection service that must be deployed on all the computers that needs to be protected.

These are the required steps to install the server:
1. Select any windows platform that connected by LAN cable to your network and is active most of the time.
2. Install Wireless Protector Software on the windows platform that will act as the server by double-clicking on Wireless Protector Installation file.
3. The server is using TCP port 49150 to accept remote computers protection requests. It is important to verify that this port is not blocked by any firewall or anti-virus program that may be installed on the platform that runs the software console (It can be checked by using the command "Telnet XYZ 49150" where XYZ is the IP or name of the platform that runs the software console).

These are the required steps to install the clients by using the Built-In Deployment:
1. Open the Scan View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Add Computers button and select one of the computers selection options.
3. Use the Next button to select the computers properties and then click the Finish button.
4. Click the Yes button to deploy the new computers or use the Deploy Computers button to install the remote protection service on the selected computers.
5. Check the Last Status column for the deployment status (all error codes are standard Microsoft errors and can be checked on the internet).

These are the required steps to install the clients by using the Self Deployment:
1. Open the tools View in Wireless Protector Server.
2. Click the Deployment link to create installation package on any removable media.
3. Insert the deployment package media to the computer that you would like to protect to install the protection service.
4. To deploy Windows platforms run the Install.bat batch file from the deployment package.
5. To deploy Mac-OSX platforms run the Install.app script file from the deployment package.
